Getting around Sofia during the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 is easy, fast, and very affordable. Sofia has a modern metro network, a large grid of trams and trolleybuses, and a dedicated night bus service. Here is everything an international visitor needs to know about purchasing tickets, using public transport, and getting home safely late at night.
1. Sofia Metro: Fastest Way from the Airport
The Sofia Metro is clean, cheap, and connects Sofia Airport (SOF) directly to the city center in about 20-25 minutes. Metro Line 4 runs from Terminal 2 directly to Serdika Station (the main central hub). The metro runs daily from 05:00 AM to midnight.
Note: If you land at Terminal 1, there is a free shuttle bus running every 15 minutes to Terminal 2, where the metro station is located.
2. Digital Payments (Tap and Go)
Sofia is incredibly advanced when it comes to ticket payments. You do not need to queue for paper tickets. You can simply tap your **contactless credit or debit card** (Visa, Mastercard) directly on the validation readers inside all metro gates, buses, trams, and trolleybuses.
- Single Ticket price: 1.60 BGN (approx 0.80 EUR) valid for 30 minutes (with free transfers).
- Daily Cap (Automatic): If you tap your card 3 or more times in a single day, the system automatically caps your daily spending at **4.00 BGN** (approx 2.00 EUR) for unlimited rides across all public transit lines.
3. Sofia Night Bus Network (N1 - N4)
Since Eurovision concerts end late (around midnight or later), night transport is essential. Sofia runs 4 night bus lines (N1, N2, N3, N4) connecting all suburbs to the central hub at Knyaz Alexander I Square (right where Eurovision Village is located!).
- Night buses run every 30 to 45 minutes between 11:30 PM and 04:30 AM.
- You can validate your card directly on the readers, just like during the day, or purchase a night ticket from the driver (2.00 BGN).
4. Taxis & Ridesharing
If you prefer taxi rides, do not take random cars outside the airport. Sofia does not have Uber, but has localized reliable taxi apps. We recommend downloading **TaxiMe** or **Yellow! Taxi** apps. A standard ride across the center costs around 10 to 15 BGN (5-7 EUR).
